More Steam and Snow from the archive. This time from a 2016 charter on the Reading and Northern. Heavy snow on Saturday turned to rain on Sunday which gave us some great atmospheric effects, including the ground fog seen outside the tunnel.

Through The Lens 164 – Wilmington & Western
More steam and snow from the archives. This trip to the Wilmington & Western produced several great shots, but this one of #98 rolling through this snow covered cut has always been a favorite of mine.
Through The Lens 163 – Shield Spring
Reaching way back into the archives for this one. This photo of Shield Spring taken during a winter trip to Yellowstone many years ago has always been one of my favorites. I’ve always liked the contrast between the color of the bacteria in the runoff around the spring vs. the snow and trees.
Through The Lens 162 – Great Falls Ice
Some ice formations on a small section of Great Falls from a cold snap a couple of years ago.
Through The Lens 161 – Steam in the Snow
Western Maryland 734 on a snowy day in Frostburg. I’m hoping for some weather like this over the weekend in Michigan.
Happy Friday!
Through The Lens 122 – Thomas Jefferson
I’m still chipping away at the photos from the New Year’s trip to Williamsburg and thought I’d share this one of Bill Barker as Thomas Jefferson. Mr. Barker has been portraying Thomas Jefferson for many years. I’m always impressed with his ability to respond to any question or situation in character. If you visit Colonial Williamsburg, make sure to find him on the schedule and make a point to see one of his public audiences. You won’t regret it.
Through The Lens 118 – Man and Machine
On a photo charter in February 2016, Christopher Brang assesses the situation while working on a stuck brake that has halted progress down the hill.
One of my goals for the year is to photograph the people involved in the operations of these historic machines more than I have in the past rather than simply focusing on the trains. Fortunately I have a couple opportunities to practice this year.

Trip Report – Williamsburg
Over New Year’s weekend I traveled to Williamsburg for what has become a nearly annual photography trip with my Dad to see the Christmas Decorations in the Colonial Area. While I did take some exterior photos in the Historic Area (when the light is as nice as it was for Friday’s post, you have to make some photos), my focus was on the historic trades.

Through The Lens 111 – Duke of Gloucester St Sunrise
